The Todd County Central boys’ basketball team appears to be hitting on all cylinders ahead of next week’s 13th-District tournament.

The Rebels improved to 22-7 and won their third straight and sixth in seven outings with a 92-15 blowout of visiting Dawson Springs on Friday.  They will face Russellville at Logan County on Tuesday to start the postseason.  Todd Central took both regular-season meetings with the Panthers, winning by 33 at home and six on the road.

It was Senior Night in Elkton, and the Rebels’ Anthony Johnson got off to a quick start on a big night.  Johnson put up six points in the first couple of minutes for a 10-0 lead.  Perez Whitlock closed the 1st quarter with a pair of 3-pointers to put the Rebels up 22-6.

Already playing without second-leading scorer Rett Nieters, the Panthers lost their leading scorer when Dilyn Skinner went down in the 2nd quarter and couldn’t return.  Another starter, Addison Whalen, was also injured just before halftime.

The Rebels continued to pile it on behind eight more points from Anthony Johnson.  Senior Amari Andrews added six and the Rebels led 43-8 to trigger the running clock after Jacob Brandon’s 3-pointer with just over a minute left in the quarter.  Jamison Glass capped the half with a dunk, and Todd Central took a 39-point cushion to the locker room.

Coach John Stigall went to his bench early and often in the 2nd half, and 14 Rebels got on the scoresheet.  Perez Whitlock hit his third three of the game and had five points in the 3rd quarter.  Anthony Johnson put the finishing touches on a game-high 18 points with four, and Mareke Johnson hit a pair of 3s.

Senior DK Merriweather took advantage of his opportunity, scoring eight of his 10 points in the 4th quarter.
