Former Caldwell County Tiger Jase Felker scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the 12th inning as the Kentucky Wildcats rallied from eight runs down on Saturday.
Trailing 12-4 through six innings against Western Michigan, UK came back to force extra innings, then won it 13-12 when Felker scored on an error at Kentucky Proud Park in Lexington.
Felker reached base on a fielder’s choice with one out in the home half of the 12th inning.
Chase Estep then singled into left-center, sending Felker to third. But when the throw back to the infield got away from the shortstop, Felker was able to sprint home from third with the winning run.
It was Felker’s third appearance for the Wildcats, who are now 6-0.
Felker, who played left field after pinch hitting in the bottom of the eighth, also picked up his first base hit and first run batted in with UK on Saturday. Felker singled to right on a 2-1 pitch to cut the Western Michigan lead to 12-8.
The Cats scored five times in the frame to get within 12-11, then tied the game with a single run in the ninth.
Felker is a junior at Kentucky after playing three seasons at Rend Lake College.
Felker is a 2018 Caldwell County High School grad. He was a member of the Tigers’ 2nd Region championship teams in 2016 and 2017 and the All A Classic state runner-up team in 2017.
Kentucky plays Western Michigan again on Sunday at 1 p.m. Eastern time in the final game of a three-game set.
The Wildcats then host the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers Tuesday afternoon.
