The Christian County Lady Colonels face a tall task as they go on the road to Henderson County Monday night. The southern Lady Colonels will look to pull off a “big” upset over the northern Lady Colonels, and should they do so, swing the door “wide open” in the Girls’ 2nd Region tournament.

Henderson County began the season as the prohibitive favorite to take the title. And, throughout the season, the northern Lady Colonels have done little to discourage those thoughts.

Henderson County and Christian County met back on January 15 with Henderson cruising to a 70-38 win. Henderson has owned the series between the two teams since March 10, 2007, winning every game but one since that time. The only Christian County win came back on March 2, 2018 in the 2nd Region tournament.

Christian County enters the tournament at 12-18 and is led by Mikayah Killebrew at 12.1 points per game. Christian County’s other double-figures scorer is point guard Anaysia Bagwell, who averages 11.1 points per contest.

On the glass, Christian County is led by Killebrew and NeVaeh Day at 8.4 rebounds a game each. Destinee Catlett-Watkins is not far back of that at 6.6 rebounds.

Christian County has struggled to get the ball in the basket. The northern Lady Colonels are shooting just 31.3 percent on the season, including 15.8 percent from behind the three-point line. Christian County is hitting 43.9 percent of its free throws.

Henderson County, at 21-4, comes into Monday night’s game on a 14 game winning streak. The only time they have been tested in that streak was in a one-point, come-from-behind win over Webster County. The northern Lady Colonels have won 22 straight against 2nd Region competition, with the last loss coming in the 2020 6th District championship game against Webster County.

Henderson County is led by Jarie Thomas at 14.6 points per game. The team’s other double-figures scorer is Graci Risley at 13.6 points.

On the glass, the northern Lady Colonels are led by Thomas with 7.8 rebounds per contest. That is more than four rebounds a game more than any other Henderson player.

Henderson County is shooting 43.7 percent from the field. What has made them so devastating at times on offense is that they are shooting nearly 38 percent from behind the 3-point line, led by Risely, who is hitting 43.5 percent of her 3-point attempts.

Tipoff is set for 6:30pm Monday night in Henderson.
