The sibling rivalry continues for Caldwell County junior A.J. Hollowell, even though big sister Majah is now at Kentucky State University.

The younger Hollowell steps into her sister’s old position on the softball field this season, taking over in centerfield for a Lady Tiger team that has been ranked as high as fifth in the 2nd Region in preseason polls.

Hollowell was listed as honorable mention on the coaches’ preseason list of top players in the region.

Hollowell batted an even .500 last season, recording 49 base hits in 98 at-bats as one of the tablesetters at the top of the Lady Tiger batting order. She had one home run last year, but may look to increase her power numbers after Majah smacked six dingers as a senior last season as Caldwell went 14-15.

A.J.’s 36 runs scored were second on the team a year ago.

She was also a contributor on the Lady Tiger basketball team this past season, averaging 5.4 points and 3.4 rebounds a game as Caldwell’s girls turned in an 11-18 record.

The Lady Tiger softball team will play its lone scrimmage at Murray High School on Thursday before opening the regular season on Monday with a trip to Union County.

YSE spoke with A.J. Hollowell this week during hitting and pitching drills at the Butler building in Princeton.
