Caldwell Girls Take Slugfest at Union County 15-10

Caldwell County hammered out 16 base hits on Monday as the Lady Tigers won their season opener 15-10 at Union County.

Caldwell’s girls scored in every inning except the fifth, and put together a six-run seventh inning to hold off the Bravettes in a game in which the two teams combined for 25 runs and 27 base hits.

Harper Holeman had a two-run home run to center in the top of the first inning and Alicia Stanley had a solo home run to center in the fourth inning for the Lady Tigers.

A.J. Hollowell was 3-for-5 at the plate with a triple and four runs batted in. Holeman was 2-for-4 and drove in four while Stanley was 2-for-5 and knocked in two runs.

Rylee Thompson went 3-for-3 and scored three times while Brylee Butts and Lainey Beshear were each 2-for-4 at the plate. Adley Lewis was 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and three runs scored.

Illysa Stallins tossed all seven innings in the circle for the Lady Tigers and was the winning pitcher. She struck out five and walked three.

The Lady Tigers never trailed after putting up three runs in the top of the first inning, but the Bravettes were within 9-7 after six innings before Caldwell gained some breathing room with its six-run seventh.

Caldwell has taken three straight from Union County.

The Lady Tigers return to action on Thursday when they play at home for the first time, welcoming Webster County to Lady Tiger Field at the Ratliff Park Complex in Princeton.
