If you removed the district portion of the Todd County Central softball team’s schedule from last season, the Lady Rebels would have posted a 14-6 mark in 2021. However, a winless district slate left them 14-14 and out of the 13th-District tournament in the first round for the seventh-straight season.

The Lady Rebels only have two seniors to replace, but both made significant contributions in the circle last season. Haylee Vass made seven starts and pitched just over 46 innings, second-most on the team. She struck out 30 batters on the way to a 3-4 record and a 5.14 ERA. Maddie Williams started 10 games, finishing 4-4 with a 5.78 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 36.1 innings.

Abigail McPherson returns after leading the Lady Rebels in most pitching stats as a sophomore, posting team-highs in appearances (18), starts (11), and innings pitched (72.2). She finished with a 6-6 record and a 6.36 ERA with 76 strikeouts.

Leading the returnees is University of Pikeville signee Samantha Case. Case led the Lady Rebels in every offensive category with a .505 batting average, 34 runs scored, 46 hits, 37 RBI, 14 doubles, and seven home runs. In addition, she was 12 for 12 in stolen base attempts and only struck out twice in 91 at-bats.

After a stellar freshman season that included a .396 batting average and 26 RBI, Jocelyn Mock figures to have an even bigger impact this year. The infielder was also second on the team in hits (36), doubles (10), and home runs (2), and may be asked to expand her role in the circle after five appearances last year.

Junior outfielder Madelyn Slaughter and sophomores Lucy Cumbee and Averie Luckenbill will also be counted on to step up. Slaughter hit .310 last season, and Luckenbill hit .348 in 23 at-bats.

Todd Central opens the season on Thursday with a visit from Unversity Heights. Last season in Elkton, the Lady Rebels knocked off the Lady Blazers 19-0.

A matchup with Glasgow in the 4th-Region All-A tournament is scheduled for March 25, and the Lady Rebels begin district play four days later with a home meeting with Russellville.

A trip to Fort Walton Beach, FL awaits during spring break with games against South Laurel, Presentation, Bethlehem, Campbellsville, and Oldham County.
