The Trigg County Wildcats slipped to 0-2 to start the season after a 12-1 loss to visiting Marshall County on Thursday.  The Marshals improve to 2-0 with both wins coming against 2nd-Region competition.

The Marshals took a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st against Trigg starting pitcher Aaron Despain.  Three RBI singles led to a four-run 3rd inning, and Marshall County jumped in front 6-0.

Two hit-by-pitches and a single by Austin Stewart loaded the bases for Trigg in the bottom of the 5th.  That was it for Marshall starter Carter McKinney, with Jace Driver coming on in relief and walking Isaac Peca for Trigg’s only run.

Leading 8-1, the Marshals loaded the bases on three-straight walks to start the 7th.  Ethan Landis doubled to bring in two runs and the final two came in on a hit-by-pitch and a sacrifice fly.

Despain took the loss for the Wildcats, allowing six earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and three walks.

McKinney earned the win on the mound, working 4.1 frames and scattering three hits with five strikeouts.

Landis and Evan Oakley each had two hits for the Marshals, with Landis driving in three runs and Reese Oakley finishing with four RBI.

Matthew Leeper and Stewart accounted for all of the Wildcats’ hits with two each.

Weather permitting, Trigg County is scheduled to host Caldwell County on Friday.  The Tigers picked up their first win of the season against Livingston Central on Thursday.
