A six-run sixth inning was all Webster County needed to knock off Caldwell County 6-4 in softball action Thursday in Princeton.

The Lady Trojans sent nine batters to the plate in the big inning while breaking a scoreless tie. Two of the runs were unearned.

Caldwell tried to battle back. Alicia Stanley doubled home a run in the bottom of the sixth and Presley McKinney picked up an RBI on an infield single to make it a 6-2 ballgame.

The Lady Tigers crept even closer in the bottom of the seventh after an error extended the inning. Brylee Butts doubled to right to drive in two runs with two outs and make it 6-4. That got the potential tying run to the plate, but a pop-up to short ended the contest.

Chloe Papineau was the winning pitcher for Webster. She tossed all seven innings, allowing two earned runs on seven base hits. Papineau struck out three and walked one.

Mallory Leath and Jenna Shelley were each 2-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in for the Lady Trojans, who are now 1-1. Both had two-run singles as part of Webster’s six-run sixth.

Stanley was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles for the Lady Tigers, who are also 1-1.

Illysa Stallins tossed all seven innings in the circle for Caldwell. She gave up four earned runs on eight hits while fanning four and walking none.

Caldwell’s girls are next scheduled to host Livingston Central on Friday.

Webster has a home date with Owensboro set for Friday.
