One day after losing on a walk-off hit, Trigg County bounced back with a 17-2 win over Dawson Springs Friday for their first win of the season and gave Taylor Follis his first win as Wildcat coach.

The Wildcats needed only three innings to get the mercy-rule win, banging out 14 hits.

Nine Wildcats had hits and six of the 14 went for extra bases.

However, it was Dawson Springs that scored first thanks to a  Mathew Cunningham double and RBI single by Christopher Jones.

Stephen Audas had a two-run single as part of Trigg’s six-run first inning. Aidan Butts, Mac McCormick, and Aaron DeSpain also had RBI hits in the inning.

Trigg had three consecutive extra base hits in the second inning. McCormick ripped a two-run single followed by an Audas RBI double, and a run-scoring triple by Jacob Hunter to put the Wildcats ahead 10-1.

Matthew Leeper and Butts followed with RBI hits.

In the third, Austin Stewart had an RBI double and McCormick followed with a homer to left. McCormick finished with three hits and five RBIs. Audas and Butts each had two hits and plated three runs.

Hunter Reynolds pitched the first inning and Chase Hampton allowed two hits and a run over the last two.

Dawson Springs (0-3) will play Whiteville Trinity while Trigg County (1-5) will host unbeaten Christian County Saturday afternoon.
