Rebels Outslug Coyotes, Reach Double Digits in Fourth Straight Game

The Todd County Central High School softball team pounded out 16 hits during an 18-11 victory Monday at West Creek in Clarksville. The season-best 18 runs gave the Rebels their sixth win in seven games and helped them avenge a 7-4 loss to the Coyotes just a week prior.

Todd Central (6-1) got monster performances from freshman Dakotah Gammon (five RBIs) and Samantha Case (four hits, three runs), as well as its bullpen, to take care of business on the road.

The Rebels and Coyotes combined for 15 runs in the first inning. After TCCHS jumped ahead 7-0, thanks largely to two-run singles from Gammon and Jocelyn Mock, host West Creek stormed right back and struck for eight runs in the bottom half of the offensive-heavy affair.

Runs continued to pour in during the second inning, as Abigail McPherson’s RBI double scored Case to tie it and Addison Woodall’s two-out, two-run ground ball led to a costly West Creek error and 10-8 Todd County Central advantage.

Todd committed four errors in the contest — half of them led to two-out runs in the bottom of the third inning that put the Coyotes back on top at 11-10, but Gammon’s sacrifice bunt tied it and Mock put the Rebels up for good with a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth that plated Abby Williams.

Mock had a tough night in the circle for Todd County Central. She never recorded an out and was relieved after giving up six runs and three walks to start the game. Woodall, Case, and McPherson picked up the slack, however, as the pitching trio combined to allow just six hits and five runs in seven innings of relief. Case (1-0) earned the win in her first appearance of 2022; McPherson, who struck out five and threw a pair of perfect innings, closed it out.

Of the eight Rebels who recorded hits Monday, six were multi-hit efforts. Case went 4-for-6 to pace the offensive, while McPherson, Mock, Gammon, Karli Herrera, and Lucy Cumbee each had two hits apiece. Atop the order, Williams went 1-for-3 with three runs and three walks. Herrera added a team-high four stolen bases, accounting for half of her team’s total.

Reagan Fisher went the distance for West Creek, giving up 16 hits, 18 runs (13 earned), and six walks in seven innings. She struck out just one. Aniya Sims went 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs out of the leadoff spot in defeat, while Hanna Johnson added a team-high three RBIs.

Todd County Central, which has reached double digits on offense during its four-game winning streak, will look to remain hot at the plate during a March 29 district contest against Russellville in Elkton.
