Caldwell Comeback Falls Short at Tilghman 9-6

Paducah Tilghman built a 9-1 lead, then held off Caldwell County 9-6 Monday night in baseball action at Brooks Stadium in Paducah.

Tilghman, now 5-0, is ranked No. 7 in the state in the latest Prep Baseball Report Kentucky poll.

Caldwell, which had a three-game winning streak snapped, jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

However, the Blue Tornado scored three times in the second inning, four times in the third and added two more runs in the fourth to go up 9-1.

Caldwell pulled to within 9-4 with three runs in the top of the fifth.

The Tigers then scored twice in the top of the seventh and loaded the bases with two outs. But a strikeout ended the contest.

Carter Whittington was the only Tiger with more than once base hit, going 2-for-3 and scoring three times.

Deontaye Walls suffered the pitching loss for Caldwell, going the first 2.1 innings before giving way to Cole Slone.

Jalen Seay was 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Blue Tornado. Levin East and Gunner Massey each went 2-for-4.

Caleb Payne pitched the first four innings to get the win. Anius Nunn tossed the final three innings to earn a save.

Caldwell is now 3-3 and will host 7th District foe Dawson Springs Tuesday at the VFW Ballpark.

Dawson is 0-5 this season.

The Panthers ended a 32-game losing streak to the Tigers last season, but Caldwell has still taken 34 of the last 35 meetings.
