Hoptown Lady Tigers Snag First Win by Getting Past Fort Campbell

After being shut out their first two games of the season, the offense came to life for the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers Tuesday evening. Hoptown scored in five consecutive at-bats as Hopkinsville cruised past Fort Campbell 15-5 in six innings.

Fort Campbell took the loss despite out-hitting the Lady Tigers 13 to 9 in the contest. The Lady Falcons gave up nine walks and a hit batter to give Hopkinsville some additional offensive opportunities.

The Lady Falcons actually took the early lead in the game with a run in the top of the first and another in the top of the second. Kiley McCrary drove in both runs with RBI singles.

Hoptown then took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom half of the second. Daijha Owen and Shaniyah Straight had doubles in the inning. Hopkinsville would add three more runs in the third to move the lead out to 6-2.

Fort Campbell cut the lead to 6-3 in the top of the fourth, but Hopkinsville came back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning and added two more in the bottom of the 5th to run the lead out to 10-3.

After the Lady Falcons put two on the boards in the top of the 6th, the Lady Tigers closed out the game with five runs in the bottom of the inning to reach the 10-run rule.

Taylor Joachim led the Hopkinsville attack, going 3-4 with a triple, a double, an RBI, and three runs scored. Kaitlyn Kaetzel ended up 2-3 with two doubles, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Hannah Thorson was 1-4 with a double, two RBIs, and a run scored.

Kiley McCrarcy was 3-3 for the Lady Falcons with a double, two RBIs, and a run scored. Alexsa Hoffman ended up 3-4 with three singles. Anika Weisbrich was 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

In the circle, Shaniyah Straight went all six innings for the Lady Tigers, giving up 5 runs, four of them earned, on 13 hits, striking out six while walking four.

Kiley McCrary went the distance for Fort Campbell, giving up 15 runs, 12 of them earned, striking out 11, but walking nine.

Hopkinsville goes to 1-2 with the win and returns to action Thursday when they host McLean County.

Fort Campbell falls to 1-3 with the loss. The Lady Falcons will play John Hardin and LaRue County this weekend.
