Trigg County girls’ basketball head coach Cory Coble is on the move.

Union County High School announced in a release Friday afternoon that Coble has been hired as the new head coach of the Bravettes.

“UCHS Athletic Department is pleased to announce the hiring of Cory Coble as the Bravettes new head girls’ basketball coach,” said the release. “Coble comes to UCHS after an impressive six-year stint as head girls’ basketball coach at Trigg County High School, where he was twice named Second Region Coach of the Year. His teams won three consecutive district championships under his leadership. TCHS also set the school record for wins in a single season during Coach Coble’s tenure.”

Coble has the second most wins of any Trigg County girls’ coach, going 82-89 in his six seasons with the Lady Wildcats. That includes a 67-52 mark over the last four years.

Coble directed the first three-peat in school history when Trigg’s girls won 5th District championships in 2019, 2020 and 2021.

His 2019-20 squad set a program record for wins, finishing the year 25-9 and advanced to the regional semifinal round for just the second time in school history.

The Lady Wildcats were 16-13 this past season, bowing to Lyon County in the district semifinals.

“I could not be more excited about leading the program at Union County,” Coble said in the release. “It is obvious that this is a group that prides itself on incredible work ethic and shares a love for one another. I will work to make the Union County community proud and continue to bring a positive light to the program. As we head toward a new chapter, I look forward to meeting the past, present and future Bravettes.”

Trigg County High School also released a statement on Friday.

“We are happy for Coach Coble, but extremely sad to be losing a great coach and a better man. Coach Coble has led the program to unparalleled success. … Coach Coble’s legacy will be forever stamped on our girls’ basketball program.”

Trigg principal Tim Bush noted, “Cory has been a colleague and a friend for a number of years. I am glad both of my daughters had the opportunity to be coached by him. We will look to continue to build on the foundation he has laid.”

“It was never about wins and losses for Coach Coble. He always said those would come,” added Trigg athletic director Matthew Wilder. “It was about loving and molding these young ladies into leaders of the future. Cory is one of the reasons I came back to Trigg County, and I will be forever grateful to him.”

Union County announced last month that Derek Phillips would not be returning after guiding the Bravettes to a 61-67 record over the past five seasons. That included a regional runner-up finish two years ago and a 15-13 mark this past season.

Union County will hold a meet and greet with Coble on Monday, April 11, at 3:30 in the school’s auditorium.

“Trigg has been home to me and my family for the past 6 years. This is an emotional time for me but I’m positive that the administration team at Trigg will work hard to find someone who will love those girls like I do,” Coble added. “I am excited about my transition to Union County but I’ll never forget what Trigg County has done for me and those girls will always be my girls.”
