Sarah Sargeant’s list of clubs and activities at Heritage Christian Academy would be enough to keep the entire senior class at the small private school busy. But, the senior wouldn’t have it any other way.

Sarah manages to balance a busy extracurricular schedule with a 4.21 GPA that has her ranked second in the Class of 2022 at HCA.

In athletics, Sarah played on the KCAA state championship volleyball team and is giving softball a try this spring.

“They seemed to need some extra players, so my good friend Tori Sutton and I decided to play since it’s also our last year for sports,” she said.

Sarah was also a cheerleader each of her four years in high school and brought home the coveted Heritage Award at the spring cheer banquet. It’s an honor she holds in high regard.

“I’ve worked really hard the past few years, and it’s great to know my Christ-like actions and hard work have paid off,” she said.

Sarah stays busy in 4-H, Spanish Honors Society, National Honor Society, and Key Club. She serves as vice-president of the student government and has used that position to learn more about the community as a member of the Hopkinsville Youth Leadership group.

“I really like the group. We’ve learned about how the justice system works in Hopkinsville and shows me how to be a better citizen in the future.”

Being a better citizen is something Sarah has already demonstrated.  In the weeks after COVID-19 shut down many places in March 2020, including schools, Sarah and her older sister Sofia took it upon themselves to give back to the community.

With the help of their grandmother Laura Waldron, the Sargeant sisters sewed protective masks to give to family members, including their grandparents, and people in need in the Hopkinsville community.

While Sarah knows Murray State University will be her college destination, exactly what path she takes is still a bit in the air. Regardless of the path, Sarah’s caring and giving nature will translate into a successful future.
