Maroons Rally Past Caldwell 3-2 in 7th District Clash

Madisonville-North Hopkins rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to knock off Caldwell County 3-2 in 7th District baseball action on Tuesday.

Both teams got strong pitching in the contest.

Eric Farmer (2-1) picked up the win for the Maroons, going the distance on the mound while allowing one earned run on seven base hits. He walked three and fanned two.

Meanwhile, Ben Goodaker (4-1) suffered his first loss of the year for Caldwell, despite allowing one earned run on seven hits in his six innings of work. He struck out five and walked two.

Madiosnville (6-9 overall, 2-0 district) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI single to left by Tomas Olvera.

Caldwell (6-5, 1-1) tied things in the top of the fourth on a two-out run-scoring single by Luke Parker.

The Tigers took the lead in the fifth when Carter Whittington singled and later came in when Brady Holeman reached on an error. That put Caldwell up 2-1.

Two errors and a walk opened the door for Madisonville’s two runs in the home half of the sixth.

Luke Barton singled in both runs to put the Maroons on top 3-2.

Farmer retired the Tigers in order in the top of the seventh.

Barton and Landon Cline were each 2-for-4 for Madisonville.

Whittington was 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Tigers.

The two teams will meet again on Thursday, this time at the VFW Ballpark in Princeton.
