It appeared runs would be hard to come by early on with Trigg County trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the 3rd inning of Saturday’s matchup with visiting Butler County, but the Wildcats erupted for 14 runs over the next three frames to prevail 14-4.
Trigg starting pitcher Aaron DeSpain allowed four runs, three earned, on six hits with a walk and six strikeouts before the Wildcats surged in front in the bottom of the 3rd.
Matthew Leeper drove in a pair of runs with a double, and Haydon Reynolds added a two-run single for a 7-4 Trigg advantage.
RBI singles by Stephen Audas and Haydon Reynolds fueled a five-run 4th before Audas closed the show with a run-scoring double in the bottom of the 5th.
Audas was 3/4 with three RBI, Leeper finished with two hits and two runs driven in, and Haydon Reynolds had two hits and three RBI.
Will Embry took the loss for Butler County, allowing five runs, three earned, on three hits with a pair of walks and three strikeouts.
