Caldwell Routs Hopkins Central 18-2 in 7th District Tilt

Caldwell County scored multiple runs in every inning while routing Hopkins County Central 18-2 in 7th District baseball action Tuesday in Mortons Gap.

The Tigers never trailed after putting up four runs in the top of the first inning. An eight-run third helped Caldwell wrap up the game on the 15-run mercy rule after just four innings.

Brady Holeman went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, five runs batted in and two runs scored as part of Caldwell’s big offensive day.

The Tigers recorded 16 base hits and also took advantage of seven walks and three hit batters.

Logan Smiley was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Carter Whittington went 2-for-4, drove in two and scored three times. Jamus Carneyhan was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Luke Parker went 2-for-2.

Hunter Newsom finished 1-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs.

Smiley was the winning pitcher. He went the first three innings, allowing two earned runs on four base hits. He struck out three and walked one. Newsom pitched a scoreless fourth inning.

Caldwell is now 8-5 overall and 2-1 in the district.

The Storm is now 1-12 and 0-3.

The two teams will play again on Thursday, this time in Princeton.
