Eddyville business Akridge Farm Supply was among the recipients of the 2022 Dr. Rudy J. Ellis Distinguished Service Awards handed out by the Kentucky High School Athletic Directors Association at its annual banquet Thursday night in Louisville.

In nominating the Eddyville business for the award, former Lyon County High School coach and athletic director Jeff Doom called the business “a vital part of the Lyon County sports programs.”

He said Paul Akridge and his staff have sponsored the Akridge Ace Hardware Shootout for the girls and boys basketball teams for the past four years and sponsored Christmas tournaments for them for many years.

The nomination went on to say that when a Lyon County team makes a state tournament appearance, all of the staff provide a care package of fruits and snacks for the players. On every game day, Akridge Farm Supply displays the games on their sign and Paul purchased a banner for each of the sports venues on and off-campus.

Also receiving distinguished service awards were former Covington Holy Cross baseball coach and current golf coach John Hall, Murray-based Varsity Scoreboards, long time Allen County-Scottsville media coordinator and statistician Don Meador, Bourbon County High School statistician and game coordinator Steve Holbrook, and YourSportsEdge.com.

The Dr. Rudy J Ellis Distinguished Service Awards are presented to individuals, groups, or businesses outside the field of athletic administration in recognition of their service and support of high school athletics within their community and beyond. The award is named for the late Dr. Rudy J. Ellis of Louisville who was a pioneer in sports medicine in Louisville and throughout the Commonwealth.
