A 12-run second inning helped Caldwell County beat Hopkins County Central 21-8 in five innings Thursday at the VFW Ballpark.

It was the third straight win for the Tigers, who are now 9-5 overall and 3-1 in the 7th district.

Caldwell has taken 13 straight from the Storm, which is now 1-13 and 0-4.

The 12-run second inning was the third biggest inning ever for the Tigers. The team record for one inning is 18 runs in the first inning of a 25-0 win against Dawson Springs in 2010. Caldwell scored 14 first-inning runs in a 14-1 victory over Lyon County in 2005.

Jamus Carneyhan was 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs batted in and two runs scored. Logan Smiley went 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored twice. Ben Goodaker was 1-for-2 with a three-run double. Brady Holeman and Hunter Newsom were each 1-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.

Caldwell recorded 13 base hits to go along with eight walks and seven hit batters.

Gabe Dyer went the first three innings on the mound to pick up the win for Caldwell. He allowed two runs — one earned — on just one base hit.

Hopkins Central had just four base hits in the contest.

Caldwell led 15-0 through three innings.

The Storm got as close as 16-8 after scoring six runs in the top of the fourth inning.

Caldwell scored five in the home half of the fourth to make it 21-8.

The Tigers have another district home game on Friday. They will host Madisonville-North Hopkins in a makeup date. The Maroons are 8-11 overall but 4-0 in district play.
