Logan’s Crooked Numbers Do In Todd Central 12-2

4-29-slaughter

Logan County’s 18 hits led to several crooked numbers on the scoreboard as the Cougars turned back Todd County Central 12-2 Friday in a district contest in Elkton.

Hailey Burgess collected five hits from the leadoff spot and scored three times as Logan County put up multiple runs in the first, sixth, and seventh innings.

Maddix Mowles also scored three runs off four hits and Emerson McKinnis had three hits and three RBI. McKinnis homered on the first pitch she saw in the first inning for a two-run shot that cleared the right-field fence.

Logan would add two more runs in the first on an RBI single by Kinley Holloway and an RBI single by Trinity Case.

Todd Central got a run back in the second when Jocelyn Mock doubled and scored on a Naomi Welborn ground out.

Todd inched a bit closer in the fourth when Abby Williams doubled, stole third, and scored on a Mock sacrifice fly.

After Logan County put one run on the board in the fifth inning, they put the game out of reach with four runs in the sixth and three more runs in the seventh.

Mowles had the big hit in the sixth with a two-run double and Shelby Gettings added a two-run double in the seventh.

It was more than enough for Shayla Johnson who pitched a three-hitter and struck out nine while walking none.

Aside from the doubles by Mock and Williams, Naomi Gammon had Todd Central’s other hit in the contest.

The teams will meet again Tuesday in Russellville as Logan County looks to break a three-way tie atop the district standings. The Cougars, Russellville, and Franklin-Simpson are all 2-1. Todd County Central stands at 0-3.

The Lady Rebels will play at Warren Central Saturday and play Clinton County while in Bowling Green.
