Crittenden County stayed red hot on offense and ran its baseball winning streak to three games Thursday, defeating host Trigg County 10-2 in Cadiz. During its current burst, the Rockets are outscoring their opponents 33-11.

During their most recent triumph, Crittenden got a pair of one-out RBI singles from Maddox Carlson and Chase Conyer in the top of the first inning to take the lead for good. Jeremiah Foster (4-2) took it from there, scattering eights, striking out four, and allowing a pair of runs in the complete-game victory.

Trigg County, which has now dropped four games in a row and seven of their last eight overall, didn’t go quietly. The Wildcats got a run back in the bottom half of the first when senior Tyler Ahart delivered a lead-off single, stole second and third bases, and scored on a passed ball to cut Trigg’s deficit to 2-1.

The ‘Cats even tied the game at 2-all in the second inning after Hunter Reynolds came through with a clutch, two-out RBI double to bring in Haydon Reynolds. After both teams were retired in order during a quick third inning, however, Crittenden surged ahead for good with a three-run fourth. Foster helped his own cause with what held up as the game-winning hit: a one-out RBI single that plated Ben Evans.

Trigg did get singles from Stephen Audas and Aidon Butts in the fourth, but Foster got Ahart to ground into a double play to end the threat. TCHS suffered a similar fate in the fifth, leaving two runners on base. The final six Wildcats were retired in order, pulling the Rockets to .500 (2-2) in 5th District action.

Dallas Ahart (0-4) managed to fan five in 4 1/3 innings but was tagged with the loss after allowing 11 hits and five earned runs. Chase Hampton allowed three walks, two hits, and three runs (none earned) in his 2 2/3 innings of relief.

Tyler Ahart and Hunter Reynolds each finished 2-for-4 in the loss. Matthew Leeper and Issac Peca each drew a walk but were held to a combined 1-for-5 at the dish. The Wildcats (5-14) committed three defensive errors and fell to 0-2 in 2022 district play.

Evans finished 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles to lead the Crittenden offense and helped the Rockets win their 10th game in 17 contests. Conyer, Logan Bailey, and Evan Belt each added two hits apiece in the victory.

Trigg County plays three of its next four games on the road, beginning with a Friday trip to McLean County. The Cougars are in the midst of a four-game losing streak of their own.
