Wildcats Bats Awaken in Road Win at McLean County

Trigg County‘s baseball team scored 11 runs on 14 hits and brought home an 11-8 win from McLean County Friday.

The Wildcats scored multiple runs in every inning but three with four Wildcats banging out doubles. Jay Humphries had three hits as did Mac McCormick.

Trigg County scored twice in the second inning on RBI singles by Jacob Hunter and Tyler Ahart.

Matthew Leeper was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for the third Trigg run.

In the third inning, Humphries doubled home Aydan Joiner and Aaron Despain followed with a run-scoring single. McCormick later doubled home a run for a 7-4 lead.

McLean battled back to get to within a run in the fifth inning but another run-scoring hit by McCormick in the sixth, followed by a two-run double by Humphries, and an RBI single by Hunter extended Trigg‘s lead to 11-6.

Houston Whitaker laced a two-run double for McLean County in the sixth, but Despain pitched a scoreless seventh to pick up the save.

Hunter Reynolds started for the Wildcats and allowed three runs in four innings with six strikeouts. Aidan Butts pitched two innings of relief and Despain closed it out.

Trigg County improved to 6-14 and will play Webster County and Graves County Saturday in a pair of games in Mayfield.
