The Crittenden County Lady Rockets built a big lead and then held off a late rally from the Caldwell County Lady Tigers to pick up a 12-8 win Friday night in Marion. The win was the third in a row for the Lady Rockets.

Caldwell County took an early 1-0 lead after a triple by Harper Holeman and a Lady Rocket error.

Three Caldwell County miscues allowed the Lady Rockets to plate three runs in the bottom of the 2nd to take a 3-1 lead. A double from Andrea Federico extended the lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the third.

The Crittenden County offense got rolling in high gear in the fourth inning, scoring five more runs to push the lead out to 9-1.

The Lady Tigers began the comeback trail in the top of the 5th inning by scoring four runs to trim the lead to 9-5. The big hit in the inning was a three-run homer off the bat of Harper Holeman.

However, Crittenden County got three of those runs back in the bottom half of the inning. Another Caldwell County error played a role in the inning for the Lady Rockets.

Trailing 12-5, the Lady Tigers made another push to get back in the game in the top of the 6th, scoring three more runs to cut the lead to 12-8. Rylee Thompson, Brylee Butts, and A.J. Hollowell, all drove in runs during the inning.

But that would be the end of the rally, as the Lady Tigers would go down quietly in the top of the 7th as Crittenden County held on for the win.

Harper Holeman had a big game for Caldwell County, going 2-4 with a triple, a home run, and three RBIs. Brylee Butts finished 2-3 with a double, two RBIs, and a run scored.

The loss drops Caldwell County to 11-8 for the season. They return to action Monday at Hopkins Central.
