Trigg County used four hits and three walks in the first inning to score seven runs against Union City, Tennessee Monday. The Wildcats made the big inning stand up as they cruised to an 11-2 win over the Golden Tornado in a game played at Murray State University’s Reagan Field.

Tyler Ahart led off the game with a walk and made an immediate impact by stealing second and third base. Trevor Terrell followed with a single to center field to drive home Ahart with the game’s first run.

For Terrell, it’s a welcome return to the Trigg County lineup after injuries have derailed the first two months of the junior’s season. He finished 1-for-3 with two RBI and is batting .500 in his return.

Isaac Peca, who has also missed time with an arm injury, tripled home Terrell for a quick 2-0 lead. Mac McCormick and Aaron Despain each followed with RBI singles to increase the lead to 4-0.

A two-run error compounded Union County’s troubles to finish off the seven-run inning.

Despain doubled home a run in the second inning, and Hunter Reynolds added an RBI single.

Trigg County was aggressive on offense, stealing six bases – three by Ahart. They also had a good eye at the plate with 10 hits and eight walks.

Despain led the Wildcat offense with three hits and two RBI. Eight Wildcats had hits and eight scored runs.

Dallas Ahart picked up his first pitching win of the season, scattering four hits over five innings. He struck out four and didn’t allow an earned run, lowering his season ERA by a run-and-a-half.

Terrell’s first appearance on the mound saw him throw two innings of hitless ball with a strikeout.

Trigg County improved to 8-15 with its third win in four games. They begin an important stretch of games this week, starting Tuesday at home against Lyon County who lost in the All A Classic State Baseball Tournament semifinals Sunday but downed Livingston Central Monday.

On Thursday, the Wildcats host Livingston Central and will play at Crittenden County Saturday.
