After six lead changes and three tie scores, Livingston Central delivered the final blow and earned a walk-off 9-8 win Monday over Lyon County in Smithland. One week after dropping an 8-6 decision to the Lyons in Eddyville, the Cardinals earned redemption and a crucial 5th District victory.

Livingston seemed to be reeling in the sixth inning, when a costly three-run error allowed Lyon County to soar ahead by a count of 8-7. The line drive contact, which came off the bat of Jenna Coursey, brought home Calista Collins, Hadlie Butler and Courtney Collins in a dramatic turn of events.

Down to their final three outs, however, the Cardinals took advantage of their final breath. After Hadley Hargrove singled, Madeline Norton doubled, and Victoria Joiner was intentionally walked to load the bases, Emersyn Ramage came through with a huge RBI single to square the game at 8-all.

Three pitches later, Nevaeh Grimm stood in the batter’s box, Norton broke home on a passed ball and scored the game-clinching, walk-off run in frantic fashion to send Livingston Central home the victor. Hitting out of the lead-off spot, Hargrove finished the night 4-for-4 with three runs scored. She also earned a save in the circle, throwing the final three innings and allowing three runs (none earned) with a strikeout.

Madison Bolte (2-3) scattered four hits and gave up five runs (also none earned) in four innings. Her counterpart — Lyon County’s Emma West — took the complete-game loss. West (3-3) allowed 16 hits, seven walks and seven earned runs in six innings.

An astounding six Livingston players recorded multi-hit games in the affair. Joining Hargrove was Joiner (2-for-3), Ramage (2-for-4), Bolte (2-for-4), Calista Jennings (2-for-4, double) and Aubrey Leahy (2-for-3).

Butler finished 2-for-5 with a double and scored twice to lead the Lyons offensively. She also stole one of her team’s three bases. Lyon County (15-10) was coming off a five-game weekend in Owensboro during the All “A” State Tournament, playing its sixth game in three days. It will play again Tuesday during another district tilt at Trigg County.

Livingston Central (15-8-1) has captured three straight victories and is now 3-1 in 5th District competition, creating a tie with Lyon County atop the standings and the race for the district tournament’s No. 1 seed.
