Apparently when Vince Marrow talks, national college football analysts/writers pay attention.

It was impressive enough that Kentucky quarterback Will Levis was being mentioned in the top 10 of several 2023 NFL mock drafts. However, Marrow said he still thought Levis had a chance to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 draft.

Maybe it was what Marrow said or maybe it was the swag Levis showed at the Kentucky Derby when he was on the track in the VIP parade before the race. Whatever the reason, CBSSports.com’s Chris Trapasso now has Levis projected as the top pick in his 2023 mock draft to the Houston Texans.

His early 2022 mock draft correctly predicted 11 first-round picks in this year’s draft. He used SportsLine’s Super Bowl odds to project the 2023 draft order — as good a way as any to put together a mock draft.

Trapasso calls 2023 a “loaded” draft for quarterbacks and put six other quarterbacks along with Levis in the first round.

“Levis feels like a quarterback who can eventually be the No. 1 overall pick. He’s big, chiseled, has a rocket for an arm and can scramble. The Texans will probably be in the quarterback market in a big way next offseason,” Trapasso wrote at CBSSports.com.

Here are other quarterbacks he has in his first round, including another one from the Bluegrass, along with his comments on each one:

— No. 3 CJ Stroud, Ohio State, “is a gamer with high-caliber arm talent and accuracy. He’s the perfect quarterback to lead a new era in Lions football.”

— No. 5 Bryce Young, Alabama. “The Giants move on from Daniel Jones and land on Young, a super-poised, functionally athletic quarterback prospect.”

— No. 7 Tyler Van Dyke, Mama, “has a cannon for an arm and a gunslinger mentality. The Panthers have to address quarterback early. No question about it.”

— No. 17 Devin Leary, North Carolina State, “has the game-manager tools it feels like Mike McDaniel (of Miami) will gravitate toward next offseason.”

— No. 26 Malik Cunningham, Louisville. “Surprise! Cunningham has springy athleticism and a live arm. With a big super senior season at Louisville, he could appear on the first-round radar.”

— No. 29 Anthony Richardson, Florida. “Who knows what the future holds for Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay? Richardson’s upside is too tantalizing to pass on here.”

  1. Has UK football ever had a #1 pick in an NFL draft?

    If yes, who and when.

If no, then who and when has been UK’s highest NFL draft choice in history?

  2. The boy from the mountains with pin point passing and most of the national records. Mr. Couch!
