Looking for its first 13th-District victory of the season, the Todd County Central softball team was instead undone by Franklin-Simpson’s big 4th inning in an 8-2 loss to the Lady Wildcats on Tuesday in Elkton.

Todd Central slips to 15-12 overall, with a trip to Hopkins County Central coming up on Thursday.  The Lady Rebels will be the 4th seed and could see the Lady Wildcats again in the opening round of next week’s district tournament.

The game was scoreless over the first two frames before Franklin-Simpson broke through with a run in the top of the 3rd.  However, Todd Central took advantage of a Lady Wildcat error to tie the game in the bottom of the inning.

The top of the 4th was decisive for Franklin-Simpson, with RBI doubles by Shelby Caudill and Allie Utley and a run-scoring single for Lexi Holleman doing the damage.

With the Lady Rebels trailing 6-1, Abigail McPherson’s solo home run got a run back in the 6th, but the Lady Wildcats answered with an RBI double from Gracie Arnemann for the final margin.

McPherson took the loss in the circle, allowing eight runs, seven earned, on ten hits with a walk and four strikeouts.

Hanna Arthur went the distance for Franklin-Simpson, scattering four hits with a walk and four strikeouts.

Holleman was 3/3 at the plate with an RBI for the Lady Wildcats.  Arnemann collected a pair of hits, and Caudill drove in two runs.
