Gunnar Bingham blasted a grand slam and the Lyon County Lyons finished 6-0 in 5th-District play with a 17-2 victory over hosts Trigg County on Monday.

Lyon County improves to 22-5 overall with its seventh straight victory over the Wildcats dating back to 2018.  The Lyons will be back on the field on Tuesday when Madisonville-North Hopkins visits Eddyville.

Jackson Shoulders and Brady Belt both singled to bring in runs as the Lyons built a 5-0 lead in the top of the 1st.  However, Trigg County got a run back on Tyler Ahart’s solo home run to lead off the bottom of the frame.

Brody Williams answered for Lyon County with a shot over the left-field fence in the 2nd, but the Wildcats again cut the margin to four runs on Haydon Reynolds RBI single in their half of the inning.

It was all Lyons the rest of the way, with back-to-back RBI doubles by Bingham and Williams part of a four-run 3rd.  Bingham’s blast with the bases juiced in the 4th made the score 14-2, and Eli Baker followed with an RBI double.

John Bingham earned the win on the mound for Lyon County, allowing two earned runs on two hits with three walks and a strikeout.  Belt finished things off, holding Trigg to a single hit with a walk and a strikeout over the final two and a third.

Bingham drove in six runs, Williams was 3/3 with two RBI, and Baker knocked in three.  Belt finished with three hits and two driven in, and Shoulders and Turner Hurst each had two hits and an RBI.

Freshman Aidon Butts started on the mound for the Wildcats, lasting three innings and yielding 13 earned runs on 12 hits with a walk and a pair of strikeouts.

Trigg County slips to 9-17 and will travel to Livingston Central on Tuesday with the district’s 3rd seed and a shot at Crittenden County up for grabs.  On Wednesday, the Wildcats host the Cardinals in both teams’ district finale.
