Franklin-Simpson Tops Rebels to Claim District’s Top Seed (w/PHOTOS)

The Todd County Central baseball team was looking to force a three-way tie at the top of the 13th District on Tuesday against visiting Franklin-Simpson, but the Rebels were on the wrong end of an 11-4 result that hands the Wildcats the top seed in next week’s district tournament.

Todd Central slips to 18-10, 3-3 in district play, with a doubleheader against visiting Fort Campbell on Wednesday.

Franklin-Simpson bounces back from a narrow loss to Greenwood to win its fourth in five tries.  The Wildcats stand at 17-12 and will host Allen County-Scottsville on Thursday.

Franklin-Simpson jumped in front with four runs over the first two frames, including RBI doubles for Cole Wix and Dalton Fiveash.

Trailing 5-0, the Rebels finally broke through with two outs in the 5th on Preston Rager’s two-run home run.  However, the Wildcats added a pair of runs in the 6th and three more in the 7th to stretch the lead to 11-2.

Fiveash went six innings on the mound for Franklin-Simpson, allowing two earned runs on five hits with a pair of walks and 13 strikeouts.

Ben Banton was 3/4 at the plate with an RBI for the Wildcats.  Chase Wilson and Wix both collected two hits, and Fiveash drove in two runs.

Rager lasted five innings on the mound for the Rebels, surrendering five earned runs on six hits with six walks and six strikeouts.  He was also 3/4 at the plate and drove in all three Rebel runs.
