The 7th District softball tournaments get underway next week. Madisonville-North Hopkins owns the No. 1 seeds for both baseball and softball while Caldwell County is No. 2 in both tournaments.
The 7th District baseball tournament will be played Monday and Tuesday at Elmer Kelley Stadium at the Madisonville City Park.
The Maroons open the event against No. 4 Hopkins County Central at 5:30 p.m. Monday in semifinal action. The late game that day, at approximately 7:30, will feature No. 2 Caldwell County and No. 3 Dawson Springs.
The semifinal winners will meet Tuesday at 6:00 for the championship.
Caldwell won last year’s district championship as a No. 2 seed, upending Madisonville 5-0 in the title tilt. The Tigers have won eight of the last nine 7th District championships. The Maroons won the tourney in 2019. The season was wiped out by COVID-19 in 2020.
Meanwhile, the 7th District softball tournament is set for Monday and Tuesday at Lady Tiger Field in Princeton.
Top-seeded Madisonville-North Hopkins faces No. 4 Dawson Springs at 5:30 Monday in semifinal action, followed by No. 2 Caldwell County and No. 3 Hopkins Central at approximately 7:00.
The championship game for softball is Tuesday at 6:00.
Madisonville, ranked No. 13 in the state in the latest Kentucky Softball Coaches Association poll, is the clear favorite. The Lady Maroons will be looking for their ninth-straight 7th District softball championship.
District winners and runners-up advance on to the 2nd Region tournaments.
