Hopkinsville increased its season win total by 25-percent Thursday with a home doubleheader sweep of Dawson Springs. The Lady Tigers won the first game 16-1 and closed with an 18-1 victory to improve to 8-14.

In the opener, Hopkinsville scored in every inning and put the game away in the fourth inning with a nine-run outburst.

Daijha Owen hit an inside-the-park grand slam to center field in the frame to extend Hoptown’s lead to 12-1. After Taylor Joachim smacked an RBI double, Jakayla Grubbs ended the game with a three-run inside the park home run to left field.

Both Grubbs and Owen had four RBI days. Joachim had two hits and three RBI and Hannah Thorson contributed a pair of hits and two RBI.

The offense was more than enough for Shaniya Straight, who struck out six in four innings and didn’t allow an earned run.

Dawson Springs scored the game’s first run when Macy Drennan reached on an error and scored on a Gracelyn Haynes single that was played into an error.

In the nightcap, Hoptown ended the suspense early with a 10-run first inning and eight more in the second.

Owen had another big game with two hits, including a double, and three RBI. Grubbs added a triple and two runs knocked in.

Thorson contributed a pair of hits and got the win in the circle with a three-inning no-hitter with eight strikeouts.

Dawson Springs got on the board in the third when Maddie Back walked, went to second on a passed ball, moved to third with a steal, and crossed home plate on a wild pitch.

Hopkinsville will host Russellville Friday.
