Ethan Weatherspoon Qualifies for State in Multiple Events

Ethan Weatherspoon broke his own school record in one event at the Class 2A 1st Region track meet at Paducah Tilghman on Saturday and will compete in at least three events at the state meet in Lexington.

Weatherspoon was second in the 100-meter dash, setting the school mark with a time of 10.92 seconds.

He also qualified for state in the 200-meter dash, placing second in the region in that event in 22.48 seconds.

The Tigers’ 4×200-meter relay team was second in the regional and earned a berth at state. That team is made up of Isaiah McGowan, Giovantie Riley, Isaiah Joyner and Weatherspoon.

Weatherspoon was edged in both dashes by Paducah Tilghman senior Luke Birdsong. Birdsong took the 100 in a time of 10.62 seconds and won the 200 in 22.25 seconds.

Caldwell’s 4×200 relay team turned in a time of 1:32.45, which was second to Tilghman’s 1:30.96.

Some athletes could still qualify for state with at-large bids. But those won’t be determined until every region has held its meet.

The Tigers placed third in the team standings with 62 points.

Tilghman ran away with the team competition with 190 points. Calloway County took second with 116.

After Caldwell were Union County (54), Webster County (49), Trigg County (44) and Hopkins County Central (33).

The Caldwell 4×100-meter relay team was third in 44.68 seconds. Team members are Elijah Shaheen, Giovantie Riley, Isaiah Joyner and Ethan Weatherspoon.

The 4×400 relay finished fifth in 4:10.06. That team is made up of Giovantie Riley, Blake Lancaster, Austin French and Filippo Taccola.

The 4×800 relay team was fifth in 9:39.32. Team members are Timothy Nichols, Lancaster, Taccola and Gabriel Schirmer.
