If not for the pandemic taking away their 2020 season, the Hopkinsville girls’ doubles pairing of Allie Fort and Ella Lester might be celebrating three straight regional doubles titles. Instead, the pair is celebrating back-to-back regional titles following the final day of the girls regional tennis tournament at Ruff Park Wednesday.

Fort and Lester rolled to the girls’ doubles title with a pair of impressive wins Wednesday evening.

In the semifinals, the duo faced Allie Meisel and Maggie Jones, of Webster County. With their length at the net and their power on serve, Fort and Lester cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win to advance on to the finals.

There they would face off against Cameron Chandler and Merrick Conkright, of Henderson County. Chandler and Conkright had advanced to the final by upending Hopkinsville’s other entry in doubles play, Grasen Givens and Ella Brown. The Henderson pair knocked out Givens and Brown in straight sets, taking the match 6-4, 6-2.

In the final, Fort and Lester continued their overpowering play from the semifinals. Strong serves and sharp play at the net would lead the pair to a 6-2, 6-0 win and their second straight second region championship.

All four semifinal entries will head to Lexington for the state tournament.

After winning the title, the pair spoke with YourSportsEdge.Com.
