Todd County Central gave Logan County a battle in the semifinals of the 13th District softball tournament Friday night at Franklin-Simpson.

But Logan advanced with a 1-0 victory behind the five-hit shutout pitching of Shelby Gettings.

Gettings struck out nine and did not walk a batter in the contest as the Lady Cougars advanced to Saturday’s championship game against Russellville (22-11). The Lady Panthers beat Franklin-Simpson 8-4 in Friday’s semifinals.

Logan (18-13) had beaten Todd (17-15) by double digits twice during the regular season before going to the sixth inning scoreless in the district tournament.

The Lady Cougars scored the game’s only run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Gettings walked to start the frame. Courtesy runner Sydni Blick then came around to score when Nora Epley doubled to left with two outs.

The Lady Rebels’ best chance to score came in the top of the fourth inning when Abby Williams led off with a double to center. Todd would end up with runners at second and third with just one out. But Gettings struck out the next two batters to keep the game scoreless at that point.

Williams finished 2-for-3 at the plate for the Lady Rebels.

Abigail McPherson suffered the loss in the pitching circle despite allowing just the one run and three base hits. She struck out five and walked four.

Epley went 2-for-3 offensively for Logan.

Saturday’s championship game is set for 6 p.m. in Franklin.

Both Logan and Russellville have earned berths in the 4th Region tournament next week.
