Hard work, determination, and attention to detail helped Trigg County’s Marleigh Reynolds climb the ranks to become one of the most accomplished basketball players in Lady Wildcats’ history. Those same qualities have also served her well in the classroom and in the community.

Marleigh was a part of three 5th-District title teams and helped the Lady Wildcats to a 16-13 record in 2021-22 with averages of just under 18 points and 11 rebounds per contest. She played in 142 games during her career, tied with Stephanie Humphries for 1st in program history. She made the most of that time on the court, finishing 5th all-time with 1,253 points and 4th all-time with 965 rebounds. She is one of only five Lady Wildcats to end her career with over 1,000 points and 900 rebounds.

Marleigh’s academic achievements are every bit as impressive as her exploits on the court, beginning with graduating last week as Valedictorian of her class. She was also named Female Wildcat of the Year for her work in the classroom and has already completed a total of 45 college credit hours.

She has also received The University of Kentucky Rising Scholars Recognition, The University of Louisville 2021 Yarmuth Book Award, and is a member of the National Honors Society.

While balancing basketball and academics is challenging enough, Marleigh still found time to amass 121 hours of community service, including work with Camp Cadiz, tornado relief projects, and coaching a Christian youth soccer team. In addition, she served as Senior Class Vice President, worked on the yearbook staff, and was a member of the Black Hole Pep Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Marleigh also took part in Y-Club, Beta Club, Interact, Sources of Strength, and Interact, while serving as a Reporter for the Health Occupation Students of America. She is also active in her church as a member of the Liberty Point Baptist Church youth group and Ignite on the Hill.

Marleigh cites her parents, Tara and Bengi, as the driving forces behind her basketball career. She points to a pair of Trigg County teachers, Mrs. Christina Ethridge and Mrs. Faye Sikes, as her most significant influences in the classroom. Mrs. Ethridge was both her Connections and dual-credit English teacher, and Marleigh credits her for making her comfortable as a freshman. Mrs. Sikes provided instruction in health services courses throughout high school, inspiring Marleigh to pursue a medical career and creating an “amazing” classroom environment.

While Marleigh has already packed a lifetime of achievements into her 18 years of life, she has even bigger plans for the future. She will be attending the University of Kentucky to major in Kinesiology in the fall. After receiving a bachelor’s degree, she intends to get her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree and begin her career as a physical therapist.
