Sometimes it is the little things a player does that can make a big impression.

Krysten Peek, basketball writer for Yahoo.com and Rivals.com, was in Chicago for the NBA Draft Combine. So was Kentucky freshman guard TyTy Washington.

However, Washington did not play in the games for NBA personnel to evaluate players.

“He didn’t play because he didn’t have to,” said Peek on WLAP Sunday Morning Sports.

That’s because Washington is projected as a top 20 pick and most of the players no longer do any major workouts at the combine.

“I caught up with him at the draft lottery and he looked so relaxed, so strong,” Peek said. “He measured in at 6-3, which seemed fine with teams.”

Even though Washington did not participate in the scrimmage, he did some to watch — something Peek says almost never happens.

“He just wanted to be around it. Most guys just leave and for him to just come and watch said a lot about him,” Peek said. “At the media availability, he was so calm and relaxed. He was very smooth and his interviews went very well and said he would be starting workouts for individual teams this week.”

She also talked to NBA scouts who said Washington’s subpar performance in the NCAA Tournament loss to Saint Peter’s would have no impact on his draft status, especially considering the NBA success of recent Kentucky guards Tyler Herro, Tyrese Maxey, Immanuel Quickley and De’Aaron Fox.

“Their success is going to help him. They are not going to underestimate Kentucky guards,” Peek said. “I have him going 15 (in the first round). He could sneak in there 13th, but I think he definitely goes top 15.”
