Kelsie Hill scattered five base hits and got stellar defensive play behind her as Henderson County blanked Madisonville-North Hopkins 2-0 in the semifinals of the 2nd Region softball tournament on Saturday.

Host Henderson (31-2) will take on Christian County (27-9) for the regional championship on Monday at 1 p.m.

The only runs of the semifinal tilt came in the bottom of the sixth inning — on back-to-back home runs by Taylor Troutman and Julianna Hibbs to start the inning.

Troutman homered to right on a 3-2 pitch to break a scoreless deadlock. Hibbs hit the next pitch over the fence in left to make it 2-0.

Troutman earlier threw out a runner at the plate to complete a 9-2 double play after Madisonville had loaded the bases with one out in the top of the third inning.

Hill (15-2) struck out five and walked four in the pitching circle for Henderson. She retired the Lady Maroons in order in the top of the seventh to nail down the win.

Mackenzie Stoltz suffered the loss for Madisonville, allowing the two runs on six hits. She fanned six and walked just one.

Hibbs finished 2-for-3 at the plate for the Lady Colonels.

Kennedy Justice was 2-for-3 for Madisonville.

The Lady Maroons end the season at 25-6.

Henderson and Christian did not meet during the regular season.

Monday’s winner advances to the KHSAA state tournament in Lexington and will face the 8th Region champion on Saturday, June 4, at 6 p.m. Eastern time.
