Colonels to Face St. X in State Baseball Opener

The Christian County Colonels now know their opponent for their opening-round game of the KHSAA state baseball tournament. The Colonels will face 7th Region champion St. Xavier Friday afternoon at 1:30pm eastern time.

The Tigers advanced to the state tournament by routing their rival Trinity 11-0 in five innings Sunday in the regional championship game. The win was the second over the Shamrocks this season for St. X.

St. X enters the state tournament with a record of 30-10. One of the Tigers’ losses came at the hands of Lyon County by a score of 3-1 in the McCracken County Mustang Invitational.

St. X has four pitchers who have seen at least 29 innings of work that have ERAs below 2.00. The best of those is Ben Purnell, who is 7-0 with an ERA of 1.04 in 33 2/3-innings of work.

The big bat for the Tigers is Jacob Bennett. Bennett has 12 home runs and 57 RBIs. Plus, he is hitting .426 on the year.

The game is being played at Kentucky Proud Park at the University of Kentucky.
