The Heritage Christian Academy Lady Warriors got a huge day from Madison Warren, both at the plate and in the field, as they advanced to the semifinals of the KCAA state softball tournament. The Lady Warriors move on thanks to a 13-3 five-inning win over Cornerstone Tuesday on HCA’s home field.

Warren went 4-4 at the plate and drove in five runs to lead the Lady Warrior attack, which connected for 17 hits on the day. Warren was also a force at the “hot corner”, coming up with four assists on four opportunities at third base.

After seeing Cornerstone take an early 2-0 lead, Heritage responded with three runs in the bottom of the first. The Lady Warriors then put the game away with an 8-run second inning as they extended the lead to 11-2.

Heritage would add a run in the bottom of the third and then close out the game with a run in the bottom of the 5th to bring the 10-run rule into play.

In addition to the big day from Warren, HCA got a solid game from Rachel Robson, who went 4-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Kailyn Stanley finished the day 3-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Kennedy Hughes also had a three-hit game for the Lady Warriors. Heritage was the beneficiary of seven walks from Cornerstone pitching.

In the circle, Kennedy Hughes went all five innings, giving up three runs, two of them earned, on four hits, striking out four while walking only one.

With the win, HCA advances to the semifinals of the KCAA state tournament where they will face North Hardin Classical Friday afternoon at 3pm at Heritage Christian.
