Madisonville-North Hopkins qualified three entrants for the 2022 KHSAA Tennis State Championships presented by UK HealthCare, but none advanced past the opening round on Tuesday.

The doubles team of Aidan Brummer and Eli Dunn fell to the Louisville Collegiate squad of Colby Berson and Luke English 6-2, 6-1, in first-round action at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Kentucky in Lexington.

Meanwhile, the Maroon doubles duo of Lukas Ramey and Jett Lutz was defeated in the opening round by Russell’s Parker Whitlock and Gunner Cassity 6-3, 6-1.

Madisonville’s doubles teams had to undergo some changes before the state tournament due to scheduling conflicts.

Brummer teamed with Braeden Bell to finish runner-up in the regional. But Dunn subbed for Bell at state. Meanwhile, Ramey and Adam Tagg earned a state berth by reaching the regional semifinals. Lutz stepped in for Tagg at state.

In singles, Nathaniel Crick was defeated by North Oldham’s Luke Colson 6-0, 6-0. Crick was the 2nd Region runner-up.

Madisonville head coach Bryan Fazenbaker has announced that he is stepping down after seven seasons at that post.

The Maroons were runners-up to Caldwell County at this year’s regional tournament, missing the championship by just one point 10-9.
