Caldwell County Makes Two Podium Appearances at State

Caldwell County had two athletes reach the medal podium in their final appearances at the Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Class 2A State Track and Field Championships at the University of Kentucky Friday.

Isaiah Joyner had Caldwell County’s top finish of the day with a third-place result in the triple jump at 43-feet, 4.75-inches. He just missed Javon Brown’s school record of 43-6.5 set at the 2011 state meet.

Giovantie Riley just missed the medal podium with a ninth-place finish at 41-feet, 7.25-inches.

Ethan Weatherspoon finished in sixth place in the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.998, edging Corbin’s Treyveon Longmire by .002 seconds.

He also finished 10th in the 200-meter dash in 23.27 seconds. The Tiger senior was the fastest runner in the race from Region I, beating Paducah Tilghman’s Luke Birdsong by a second.

Cole Sherrill finished 19th in the shot put with a toss of 37-feet, 8.5 inches.

The 400-meter relay team of Elijah Shaheen, Isaiah Joyner, Giovantie Riley, and Ethan Weatherspoon finished in 13th place in 44.97 seconds. They just missed the school record of 44.68 set in the region meet.

The 800-meter relay team of Isaiah McGowen, Giovantie Riley, Isaiah Joyner, and Ethan Weatherspoon came in 12th place with a time of 1:33.94.

As a team, Caldwell County scored nine points to finish tied for 21st place.
