Demeco Kennedy now has six Division I offers.

About three weeks ago Frederick Douglass High School football coach Nathan McPeek told us on WLAP Sunday Morning Sports about junior offensive lineman Demo Kennedy.

Since McPeek already has offensive lineman Jager Burton and receivers Dane Key and Dekel Crowdus playing at Kentucky, Douglass senior Ty Bryant is committed to UK and other Broncos are playing at other schools, it’s wise to pay attention what he says — especially about linemen since he was an offensive lineman in college.

The 6-3, 260-pound Kennedy has been timed in 5.38 seconds in the 40-yard dash and clocked in 4.88 seconds in the shuttle run. He was measured with an 80-3/4 inch wingspan at a recent camp at Louisville.

Now he has a Kentucky scholarship offer to go with ones from Louisville, Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, Miami-Ohio and Southeast Missouri State.

“He is athletic with long arms. I think as he gets to camps in June he will blow up with college recruiters,” McPeek said.

Kentucky recruiting coordinator Vince Marrow is Kennedy’s lead recruiter, one clear indication UK likes him a lot.

Kentucky lost a Frederick Douglass offensive lineman earlier this week when Jamarrion Harkless picked Illinois over UK, Georgia and others.

“I told people two years ago he would be a scholarship kid. You can just tell at a young age when guys have it. He is a 300-pounder who moves like he is 250. He has great movement in his hips,” McPeek said. “He is a very quiet, soft spoken kid but he loves football. He had some injuries last year that made him miss a few games but he played well in the playoffs and then at the Best of the Midwest camp in February in Indianapolis he was MVP. Schools really like his upside and I think he’ll have a big senior year.”
