Tripp Branch (84) and Centre College played football at Limerick, Ireland, last month.

There are road games and then there are road games.

Former Caldwell County standout Tripp Branch and his Centre College football teammates traveled across the Atlantic Ocean last month for a game against the University of Limerick in Ireland.

The Colonels jumped out to a 28-0 lead on the Vikings before the game took an unusual twist.

Due to several injuries on the Limerick team and some players not playing because of an upcoming playoff game in Ireland, some of Centre’s players were sent over to the other side so the game could continue.

“The rest of the day was spent simply playing the game we all love, American football, with mixed teams of Irish and American players,” the UL Vikings noted on their Facebook page.

Branch, a wide receiver, is a rising sophomore at Centre.

The Colonels are scheduled to kick off the 2022 season with a shorter road trip. Centre will go to Hanover College in Indiana on Saturday, Sept. 3.
