Garrett Blevins worked seven shutout innings, and 1st-baseman Ronald Brown made a splash in his first game to send the Hoptown Hoppers to a 13-0 blowout of the visiting Paducah Chiefs on Thursday night.

The Hoppers improve to 7-5, 3rd in the OVL South Division, with a trip to face the 4th-place Fulton Railroaders on Friday.  Paducah drops its second in a row to slip to 3-9 overall.

After loading the bases in the 2nd only to bunt into a triple play, the Hoppers got their first run without the benefit of a hit.  Paducah starting pitcher Kailen Hamson walked the first four batters in the bottom of the 3rd to put the Hoppers in front.

With one out and the bases still juiced, University of the Incarnate Word senior Ronald Brown marked his first outing with a bomb over the left-field fence to stretch the lead to 5-0.

Five consecutive singles kicked off a seven-run Hopper 4th.  Chase Harlan and Drew Donaldson each singled in a run before Brown added his fifth RBI with a sacrifice fly.  Hunter Hyden flew out to center to plate another run, and Alex Archuleta added an RBI on the seventh single of the inning.

Blevins scattered six hits and didn’t allow a runner past 2nd, walking three and striking out six to pick up the victory.

Donaldson drove in three runs for the Hoppers, and Will Spear and Archuleta both finished with two hits.

Hamson took the loss for the Chiefs, allowing four earned runs on no hits with six walks and a strikeout.
