Crittenden County will now begin the search for a new head softball coach. In a social media post Wednesday, head coach Stephen Smith announced he was stepping down from the Lady Rocket program.

In the post, Smith stated “after everything that has happened this past season it is in best interest of mine to now focus on my family and my future. I am very proud of my coaching staff and all the past players and teams I have had all these years. For over the past 14 years I have dedicated my time and passion into the sport of softball and I have made many great memories that will last a lifetime and I am so thankful for that.”

The Lady Rockets finished the 2022 season with a record of 10-20, with a runner-up finish in the 5th District and a loss to Henderson County in the opening round of the 2nd Region tournament.

Crittenden County shocked much of the “softball area” when they rocked Lyon County 20-2 in the 5th District semifinals to advance on to the district title game, where they would then fall to Livingston Central.
