For the second time in less than a week, a 5th District team has lost its head softball coach. Trigg County Athletic Department officials announced Thursday that Ashley Denfip has stepped down as coach at Trigg County High School.

Denfip’s departure comes in the same week that Crittenden County coach Stephen Smith left the Lady Rocket program.

Denfip spent three seasons as the head coach of the Lady Wildcats. The 2020 season was wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic.

During her two seasons of game action as coach, Denfip led Trigg County to a 17-30 record. The Lady Wildcats lost in the semifinals of the 5th District tournament each of the two seasons.

Trigg County was an extremely young team in 2022, with 14 players being sophomores or younger.

In a statement, Trigg County Athletic Director Matt Wilder noted “it has been a pleasure to work with Coach Denfip. She has had to deal with things that no other coach has had to deal with before in her 3 seasons as head coach. She led our program well, and she leaves the program with a young group of student-athletes and a solid foundation.”

Wilder says the search for a new coach will begin immediately.
