Ella Defew’s athleticism sometimes gets overlooked on the basketball court — until a big play happens and Defew is right in the middle of it.
Defew will likely be the only senior on the Lyon County girls’ basketball roster in 2022-23. She cracked the varsity squad as a seventh-grader and has been a steady contributor as an underclassman.
After averaging seven points and six rebounds last year, Defew will be looked to provide more than just numbers for this year’s young squad. She will be looking to be the team leader — something she is looking to embrace.
If the teammates can replicate her hustle and work on defense, they will be just fine. Defew looks to have a breakout senior season on the stat sheet. But what she gives the Lady Lyons in effort and defense can’t be measured in stats. But it could mean wins for the Lady Lyons.
