Travis Perry’s college recruiting summer got a tick more interesting with his latest scholarship offer.

The Lyon County junior announced on social media Saturday that he had received a scholarship offer from John Calipari and the University of Kentucky.

Perry was in Lexington this weekend to visit the campus and the UK facilities.

According to YSE’s Larry Vaught, Calipari was at last weekend’s Titans-Rockets Summer Shootout in Shelbyville. Although there to see Xavier Booker, the No. 2 overall player in the class of 2023, Calipari also got an eyeful from Perry. He scored 42 points, including 10 3-pointers, in one game and 36 points in a 63-62 loss to Indianapolis Cathedral, the defending Indiana state champion in the other.

Perry, a varsity starter for the Lyons since the 7th grade, has scored 3,189 points and is on pace to break the state’s all-time scoring record of 4,337 points set by “King” Kelly Coleman of Wayland from 1953-56.

Perry came into the summer with offers from Creighton, Western Kentucky, Ole Miss, and New Orleans. Since a busy summer of travel has begun, which has included camps in Indiana and Mississippi as well as the shootout in Shelbyville, Perry has announced offers from Purdue, Bradley, Nebraska, Iowa, Cincinnati, Missouri, and Wake Forest.

Perry averaged 27.5 points a game in helping the Lyons reach the Sweet 16 quarterfinals — the school’s first trip to the state tournament in 71 years. He shot 49 percent from the field, 38 percent from 3-point range, and 82 percent at the free throw line.
