The USA Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., were a recruiting promo for the University of Kentucky and former NBA star Earvin “Magic” Johnson noticed.

He took to Twitter where he has 5,287,869 followers to praise former UK track stars Sydney McLaughlin and Keni Harrison along with Kentucky senior Abby Steiner. All three won events in impressive fashion to qualify for the USA team that will compete in the World Championships next month in Eugene, Ore.

Here’s what he posted:

—  Congratulations to Sydney McLaughlin for breaking her own world record in the 400M hurdles at 51.41 seconds! What’s amazing about Sydney is she runs with such ease. The great ones always make it look easy even when they dominate. @GoSydGo

— World record-holder Keni Harrison also ran a world lead 12.34 second 100M hurdle race. Keni is one of my favorite track and field athletes. She’s serious about her craft and it paid off this weekend. That’s why she’s a champion! @Ken_AYE_

Abby Steiner won the 200M race with a world lead and personal best time of 21.77 seconds! Abby’s win is so amazing because she’s still in college at the University of Kentucky. @abbysteiner1

Obviously he was not the only one praising what that trio did but there’s just something about Kentucky women’s track earning love from Magic Johnson that is very, very special.

  1. Totally agree Larry. When I saw this earlier today I was like Wow. Hopefully the UK marketing team will use this. I nice billboard like. UK Women’s Track and Field is pure Magic. With a picture of the 3 young ladies and those quotes. Finishing with and he should know. Or something like that! They deserve it! !
