Kentucky fans should love one important point that freshman guard Cason Wallace made at this first UK press conference Thursday.

The talented guard compared himself to NBA players Jimmy Butler and Eric Bledsoe, two stars known for their elite defense as well as their offensive capabilities.

“It’s really what sets people apart, so if playing defense sets me apart from the next best player, that’s what I’m going to do,” Wallace said.

When Kentucky signed Wallace in November, coach John Calipari said he reminded him of former UK players Bledsoe and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander because of his quiet demeanor and defense.

“He is already an elite on-ball defender who takes a lot of pride in that part of the game,” Calipari said then.

Wallace expects Calipari to push him to be elite — and that’s why he picked Kentucky.

“Shai, I like his game and I try to model it a little bit as far as floaters and getting shots. Eric, he’s a big guard. I like the way he plays. I feel like I could be a little bit of him too,” Wallace said.

If he is, then UK has a special player on this year’s team.

  1. We need less talking and more balling from this team. Oscar is the only proven talent, everyone else needs to earn it on the floor like he did. And yes, that includes Sahvir. If he plays for the team, they could go far; if he plays for himself, this team will struggle.
